In today’s video we’ll take a look at wave demand replenishment. Wave demand replenishment is used as a supplement to min max replenishment in the warehouse. Min max replenishment allows you to set a minimum and maximum quantity on the shelf for the item and a batch job will create replenishment work to keep the picking shelves full. Wave demand replenishment is used in between runs of the min max replenishment. When a sales order is released and there isn’t enough stock in the pick face to fulfill the order, but there is stock in the bulk or overstock areas of the warehouse wave demand replenishment will create work on the fly that will replenish the pick face so that there is enough stock to pull for the released sales order.
In my example I used a UOM of each in the replenishment template. This will only pull enough stock to fulfill the sales order. Some companies like to go ahead and pull multiple of the same item to fill the shelf so that a later replenishment isn’t necessary. This can be done by creating a new UOM and UOM conversion for the item.
In the example below I created a new unit called Max, and then on my L0006 item created a unit conversion between Max and Each so that 1 max = 100 ea.
Next on the Replenishment template I changed the unit of measure from ea to Max.
Finally I created a new sales order for Forest Wholesales and released that to the warehouse. When we look at the work that was created the quantity on the work is 10PL (pallets) which equals 100 ea. This setup allows you to move quantities greater than the amount on the sales order so that if subsequent sales orders are generated multiple replenishment are not required.
