Returns (RMAs) in D365 Advanced Warehouse

Unfortunately what goes out sometimes comes back in not the same shape that it went out in.  Customer returns are a necessary part of any business that is shipping goods.  Sometimes customers order the wrong product, you ship the wrong product, a product could be damaged or a multitude of other things could be reasons for a customer to want to return an item back to you.  In today’s post we’ll take a look at the return process using Dynamics 365 advanced warehouse.

Setup

The setup for returns in Dynamics 365 advanced waerhouse is the normal cast of characters that we see in other processes using advanced warehouse.  Today we’ll be looking at setting up:

  • Work Templates
  • Location Directives
  • Disposition Codes

The work template setup in our example is straight forward we’ll only be setting up a pick and a put.  I’ve also setup a work class for this work called RMA.

The disposition codes that are setup are RMA Credit and RMA Scrap.  The main column to pay attention to is the RMA disposition code.  This will determine the final disposition on the RMA after the item has been updated through the advanced warehouse application.

The location directive is fairly straightforward as well.  This location directive is just setup to direct the good to the return zone. Note that a disposition code has been included in the directive.  The disposition code for this directive is RMA credit.
